Brown seizes qualifying lead at NHRA season-opener
Former Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Antron Brown raced to the Top Fuel qualifying lead Friday in the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

The 2007 POWERade Drag Racing Series roared to a spectacular conclusion in the fourth quarter with Tony Schumacher, Tony Pedregon, Jeg Coughlin, and Matt Smith earning the hardware in their respective categories. The final installment of NHRA.com's year in review points out all the exciting happenings of October, November, and December.
Aside from the four champions being crowned, the final quarter was highlighted by "Hot Rod" Fuller's big double win in his adopted hometown of Las Vegas and Dave Connolly's incredible streak of five victories in a row. Whit Bazemore, Chip Ellis, and Peggy Llewellyn all lost their jobs, while previously dismissed professionals Angelle Sampey, Antron Brown, and Tommy Johnson Jr. all managed to find new rides for 2008.

I was exchanging holiday greetings with Lee Beard, the crew chief of David Powers' Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster, when the subject turned to his new driver, Antron Brown. Most Geiger Counter readers know Brown has competed in Pro Stock Motorcycle to much success over the past decade but is now making the switch to Top Fuel.
Beard, Brown, and the Matco team recently completed an extensive test at Gainesville Raceway where Beard tells me Brown made several "perfect passes," including some to the 1,000-foot mark that would have translated to low 4.5-second runs if Brown[...]

Brownsburg, Ind. - (December 19, 2007) The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) season concluded last month in Pomona, Calif., at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. Supporting Chicago Pneumatic racers faired pretty well on the 2007 season, with one of them taking home a world championship.
