Del Worsham tries to get ahead of cut
There's a good article in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin about Del Worsham trying to get into the countdown, if you overlook that the reporter called him Bill.
A year ago, in the inaugural NHRA Countdown to the Championship, Chino Hills Funny Car driver Del Worsham missed the cut by 38 points when he lost in the semifinals in Reading, Pa., to eventual winner Tony Pedregon.
Pedregon went on to win the series championship.
As the Powerade Drag Racing Series returns to Reading this weekend, Worsham is once again on the brink of ...

Anticipating NASCAR-like growth spurt, sport markets itself to broader audience
The National Hot Rod Association appears to be positioning itself for a growth period similar to the one NASCAR enjoyed in recent years as that sport broadened its fan base from mostly automotive enthusiasts to mainstream America.
The NHRA itself has taken several key steps recently — the hiring of the giant sports-marketing firm IMG and adding the powerhouse ad agency Edelman to help steer its public-relations campaign. And a new track is ...

They'd always start with a cruise toward Washington, D.C., to V Street. Cars lined both sides of the road. Then the bragging began. Stakes on the illegal street races were raised as high as $5,000 to $10,000. Justin Humphreys' '89 Mustang GT 5.0 could run a high 10 on the street, he said.
“It had nitrous and all that good stuff,” Humphreys said. “Back when I was young, I had 15 to 20 friends that all had

Rain cancelled Friday's NHRA Funny Car qualifying, leaving drivers with only two Saturday sessions to get into the Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix.

Tim Wilkerson impressively leads the field into eliminations on Sunday. With only two sessions to qualify, the list of those that didn't make the field is surprising. Del Worsham experienced the disappointment of not qualifying his Checker Schuck's Kragen sponsored Impala at his sponsor's event. Del wasn't the lone DNQ though. Ashley Force, Melanie Troxel, Bob Tasca III and Terry Haddock were also unable to qualify.
