On Wednesday, the legendary drag racing school instructor completed two stellar runs and, under the watchful eyes and with the approval of another former champ -- Mark Oswald -- renewed his NHRA nitro Funny Car license.

"What an amazing feeling," Hawley said.

"I think that remaining actively involved in the sport made...

Fourteen-time Funny Car champion John Force didn't lose his flair for the dramatic or his passion for NHRA POWERade drag racing in last September's dramatic accident that sidelined him for four months. He thrilled the faithful at the season-opening CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals by waiting until the last qualifying session to make the field and then racing through to the semifinals in typical Force fashion.

It's obvious Force is more concerned about building a better car than he is with...

The real competition involves sponsorships and the cubic dollars racers spend in an effort to not only go fast, but win a championship. The cars, capable of covering the Pomona Raceway quarter-mile drag strip at the Winternationals in a few ticks over four seconds and reaching speeds of 330 mph, are the focal point in sponsor...
