2000 Gators Champ Toliver to Debut New Car in Gainesville
Jerry Toliver will be behind the wheel of a new race car at this weekend's NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., the third of 24 races on the 2008 POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule. The driver of the Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car tested two days this week with a new chassis at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, Ga., in advance of this prestigious event.
The 2000 Gatornationals Funny Car winner made several shakedown runs down Valdosta's quarter-mile in the new Murf McKinney chassis on Sunday and Monday. The Rockstar Energy Drink team then packed up and headed to Gainesville.

GAINESVILLE, FLA (March 7, 2008) --- Robert “Top Gun” Hight has a high level of respect for the drivers that have won and competed at Gainesville Raceway for the past four decades. He knows it is a special place for a variety of reasons, some happy and some sad.
Gainesville and Gainesville Raceway are home to the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame and the first 300 mph run in drag racing history. This is one of the few tracks on the NHRA tour where Hight is the current track record holder for elapsed time and speed at 4.686 seconds, 331.94 mph. But Gainesville is most special since it was here that Hight shared the race track with his good friend and teammate Eric Medlen for the last time.
“This is honestly a race I want to win really badly. This is where the Hall of Fame is and this is where you get great crowds for the races. It is unbelievable how many people turn out plus all the sponsors and older racers; guys that have won championships and are Hall of Famers. That is one race I really want to win,” said Hight, the current Funny Car points leader.

Steve Fossett World Land Speed Racing (LSR) Team has announced that NHRA Top Fuel & Funny Car driver Melanie Troxel has made their short list of possible drivers for their newest land speed record attempt. The organization’s newest car is a 48 foot long streamliner powered by a 40,000 HP S&S Turbine jet engine. The team’s goal is to set a new Absolute Supersonic Land Speed Record of more than 800 MPH and they want a woman to pilot the vehicle.
In addition to Melanie, two other NHRA drivers made the short list as well. Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Peggy Llewellyn and newly licensed Top Fuel racer Jessie Harris are also candidates. The list of other potential drivers includes drivers from other motorsports and two pilots.
The selected candidate will have to be available for the team’s test and run schedule for 2008, which may not fit with Melanie's current NHRA racing schedule.
