TALLMADGE, Ohio -- Summit Racing Equipment, the world’s largest direct mail and Internet supplier of high performance automotive parts, and Kenny Bernstein Racing have reached a new sponsorship agreement for 2008. Under this agreement, Summit Racing Equipment will become an associate sponsor of Budweiser/Lucas Oil Top Fuel driver Brandon Bernstein and Monster Energy Drink Funny Car driver Tommy Johnson Jr. during the upcoming season.

The final day of the Nitro Blast-off ended with Larry Dixon and Scott Kalitta posting the best Top Fuel and Funny Car runs of the three-day test session at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Dixon zoomed to a 4.664 despite shutting his U.S. Smokeless Tobacco dragster off early, while Kalitta coaxed a 5.095 out of his DHL Solara after some huge half-track numbers.
With everyone working on 90-percent nitro for the first time under the current rules, Dixon and tuner Donnie Bender finally posted a four-second pass in Sunday's first session when they went 4.921 at 215.41 mph in a planned shutoff run that reached 1,000 until Dixon lifted...

Here's a vintage eighties Pontiac Firebird Funny Car body for sale. The seller purports that the body was one of the last Blue Max Top Fuel Funny Car bodies used by Raymond Beadle (unverified). This fiberglass body would be great for anyone wanting to run a nostalgia funny car and would look great painted in the old Blue Max color scheme. The starting bid is only $1,000. In a press conference Friday, Andrew Bornstein, Amalie Oil Business Development Manager, announced that Amalie Motor Oil will renew and expand its relationship with Terry McMillen and the Hoosier Thunder Motorsports drag racing team based in Elkhart, Ind. The surprising withdrawal of Torco Racing Fuels from race team sponsorship for the 2008 season has many high profile teams and drivers scrambling for new sponsors so they can compete this season.
As quoted in the Peoria Journal Star:
Don Prudhomme lost sponsorship for Funny Car driver Tommy Johnson Jr., who moved to Kenny Bernstein's team, so Prudhomme is only running a Top Fuel car for Larry Dixon this season.
Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Matt Smith is looking for work and Pro Stock driver Dave Connolly may start this season on the sidelines, as may Funny Car driver Mike Ashley. (Editor's note, Ashley has since signed a deal with ProCare Rx for 2008.)

Major expansion in store for NHRA Countdown
Moving on feedback and suggestions generated during the drag racing offseason, NHRA on Thursday announced two major changes to its Countdown to the Championship.
The Glendora-based sanctioning body will increase the number of Countdown participants in the four professional classes from eight to 10 and stretch out the final run to the championship from two to six races.
