Herb McCandless and Sonny Shipmon reached speeds and heights so rarified in drag racing that their distinguished accomplishments are set to become stamped into immortalization today.
The Burlington legends are among the five members who comprise the second class of inductees for the North Carolina Drag Racing Hall of Fame.
“For people to recognize the stuff that we did and to remember it,” the 64-year-old McCandless said, “it’s very special because that will always be there. They can’t take that away from you once they put you in it.”...
